I often wish I could convert my house to all-electric and install solar panels and such, but it doesn't seem like it's cost effective.
I'd need a new furnace, water heater, and oven before I could get rid of the LP tank. I don't think heat pumps are advisable in Iowa (gets too cold), so it's probably a step backward in terms of energy efficiency to heat with electric around here.
Often when I think about the costs involved with improving anything around the house I eventually arrive at the feeling that it'd probably be somehow cheaper to just build a brand new house. lol (Probably not actually true since I understand that the cost of lumber and such is at ridiculous levels.)
@bigzaphod I imagine that the environmental cost of building a new house is pretty high too.
I think we’re getting to a point where financial cost is something we’re going to have to suck up for the environmental benefits. Which means it needs to be wealthy people leading the way, like with electric cars. If we can convince the rich to go all electric to keep up with their rich friends, then it will push the tech down to the less well off. That’s my theory anyway.
