I think the #fediverse will really take off when it becomes easy for non technical people to host their own instance.

There is a huge opportunity for who ever can make an open source single binary deployable and sells hosting for it.

Mastodon is great, but I don’t think Rails is the tool for that. There are too many moving parts and external services to set up.
