The fun of being a traditionally published author. Every week I get to load up BookScan, which is essentially one company’s (NPD) guess at how many books I sold the previous week, based on...well, nobody knows really. It doesn’t include ebooks, which is the bulk of my sales, so instead I just get to laugh bitterly. And yet, for some reason, I still do it every week! Masochism may be a key author trait.

@dmoren I get a statement every 3 months to tell me that I’ve sold another couple of copies, and that I’ve only got about $8000 left of my advances to clear.

Though some statements say that they had copies returned and that they’ve added the cost to what I have outstanding.
