Best A/V Receiver to Use with Apple TV 4K 2021 | iMore imore.com/best-av-receiver-use

I’ll probably not do anything about it. I’m happy with the stereo HomePod pair audio with my TV setup at present.

@ianRobinson I love my HomePod pair for sheer sound quality, but they really test my patience at times. Frequent dropouts, failure to connect, even disappearing completely and needing rebooted.

That said I’m planning on getting another pair of the newer ones for another room. That’ll be the 3rd pair. I have a lot of HomePods and minis!

@mo I have 6 of the big originals. Two pairs and two singles. I’m all in. It’d be great if you could use 4 or 5 in the same room for surround sound. You could fake it with Airplay to multiple devices, but I expect it’d be dodgy.

Re the dropping audio. I saw a Marco Arment post were he mentioned using a shortcut to send audio from iPhone to HomePods. I’ve started using a short cut (see pic) and I’ve had no dropouts. But it’s only been a few days.

@mo It occurs to me that my shortcut is using hand off and his is set destination. Which might be different. Still, no dropouts here while useing it. Time will tell.

@ianRobinson I think the dropouts are hardware dependent. I’ve got two pairs of original HomePods here and only one pair of them is problematic. Though it is also the most used pair in the house.

I should add that they’re usually pretty reliable for audio, but it’s when acting as the AppleTV default outputs that they start to act up.

None of this has deterred me at all. Current status is 4 original HomePods, and 8 HomePod minis!

@mo I’ve no dropout issues on the AppleTV pair yet. Thankfully!
