Record Store Day is irritating and stupid. Instead of making 10,000 copies available for stores to sell for £20 they make 1000 copies. Stores sell them all for £20 quid and then people flip them immediately and *none* of that money goes to record stores.

@acf and it always seems to be on a Saturday. I can go to a record store from Monday to Friday, but I’d spend the price of a record on fuel/parking to get there on a Saturday. Not even accounting for the fact that I don’t really want to do a work commute on my day off!

Sometimes it seems a bit like gatekeeping (only in store, only at weekends) and not very accessible. Just perpetuates that High Fidelity record store mentality.

@mo 100% agree. It’s nice to have a big release day, but don’t make them so limited that you can *only* buy them that day or you’re just making money for flippers.

@acf I’m waiting for notifications from a couple of online places in case they have anything left over. Imagine you were physically unable to get to a shop, or were clinically vulnerable and it was too risky to go to a public place. RSD is not for you apparently.

I love the idea of record stores. I’d love to own one. But I’d love to make it welcoming to all.

@mo I just put in an absurdly high bid on eBay and hope for the best.

@mo just got the one I wanted for an absurd amount of money on eBay 🎉😞
