It gives me great pleasure to discover that there is a cricket umpire in Cyprus called Windy Miller! #cricket
Well that went relatively smoothly. A couple of tweaks needed to the validation code, but fine otherwise.
Having your bowler who took 5 wickets at less than 5 an over only bowl 7 overs was certainly an interesting strategy from Scotland. #cricket
In a move that has shocked me I've managed to write a second monthly update and have it actually be on time. This "monthnote" focuses on the addition of some missing Women's Test Matches (which I'm very happy about). http://cricsheet.org/article/monthnotes-february-2023/
Say (hypothetically) you’re converting the scorebook for a Women’s Ashes Test to data and you realise that the scorecards for the match on Cricinfo, CricketArchive, and Cricbuzz don’t match the original scorebook, who do you contact for clarification? ICC, ECB, Cricket Australia, CricketArchive? Or attempt to contact the original scorers?

It looks like Connor bowls overs 76, 78, 80, 82, and 84 consisting of 2 maidens, and then overs of 1, 1, and 4 runs, however Connor didn’t bowl overs that conceded those runs in that order. She does bowl a single maiden (her 5th over) followed by overs of 1, 1, and 4 runs and then follows that with another maiden. “Moving” that second maiden to directly follow the first “fixes” the ball by ball data, correcting the balls faced by the Australians. Gggrrrrrrr. 2/2
I’ve been using the awesome scorebook data from Women’s Cricket History (https://womenscrickethistory.org/Scores/England_Aus_Tests_Scoresheets_1949-2014/168/index.html ) to try to recreate the ball-by-ball data for the 2nd Women’s Ashes Test from 2002/03 (https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/england-women-tour-of-australia-2002-03-61570/australia-women-vs-england-women-2nd-test-67517/full-scorecard) but I’ve hit an issue. I can’t reconcile the balls faced by Sthalekar and Rockwell (or be consistent with the over-by-over scores) without reordering the overs bowled by Clare Connor. 1/2
I’ve written an update on some of things that have happened with Cricsheet in the last month or so, including the addition of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy data, and some previously missing Tests from 2003 and 2004. https://cricsheet.org/article/monthnotes-january-2023/ #cricket #theashes
Thanks to a kind email pointing me to Cricket Australia ball-by-ball commentary for the 2011 Women’s #Ashes Test I’ve finally been able to resolve the discrepancies in the data, meaning that later today I’ll finally be able to add the match to the site.
This is only the 10th Women’s Test match I’ve been able to source, but does mean I’ve managed to get 10 of the last 12 Tests. I’ll keep digging on the others. #cricket #data
