The trade-off to the convenience of a courier allocating you an hour’s delivery slot is that if they are running late, despite being 100 yards from your house, you get dropped from that day’s delivery run.

That’s the calm way of me expressing how frustrated I am that some hi-fi components are going to spend an unnecessary night in a delivery depot.

@simon there are so many frustrations in logistics these days.

Last week I was expecting a delivery, and was told it would arrive on Monday of this week. That was cool. On Friday, I got an email to say that the delivery would be on Saturday. Yay! Saturday came and went, with no delivery. Arrived on Monday as originally expected.

It’s not terrible (and I feel for your components shivering and alone tonight!) but it’s the unnecessary frustrations that these things inject into our lives.

@mo It’s definitely a first-world problem but yes, when you are expecting something and then it doesn’t arrive it’s just disappointing. And DPD used to be really good but now you can’t even contact them easily.

Ah well, fingers crossed for tomorrow and I’ve spent some of my evening moving CDs into new cases to replace cracked or broken ones so that’s one boring job done because of it.

@simon we do live in the first world though 🙂

Sometimes it’s a frustration, and sometimes it’s extremely difficult to accommodate the changes. When you arrange your schedule to receive a delivery, then have to rearrange due to changing circumstances, it can be more than just an irritant.

And it’s usually down to penny-pinching and attempts to cram too much into a driver’s schedule that is too fragile to accommodate any unforeseen circumstances.

@mo @simon In a surprising turn of events, today I got a delivery that started in Amsterdam on Tuesday! It went Amsterdam > Brussels > Birmingham > London > Melbourne > My house in under 72 hours. Impressive from Nike/DHL.

(Should have hidden your components in Nike trainers Simon 😀)

@bazscott @mo My daughter would have been delighted by that… she owns enough pairs of Nike trainers than it is bordering on an obsession.

@bazscott @mo Or double-disappointment if it is DPD delivering. 😩

Fingers crossed for today’s attempt anyway.
