@bazscott If we want to get into banning things that could never realistically be banned, for me it would be the accumulation of wealth on the backs of others by doing nothing personally. Too many people are looking for the easy win. I don't think life should be hard, but I also don't think anyone should be able to have an easy life because other peoples' lives are hard.

@bazscott you know I can't say that for sure. It’s an extremely complex system, and we can't solve housing problems on an individual basis. What I do know is that the house we bought was designed and approved by the local government to be a high spec second/holiday home. It was never intended to be affordable housing so by my wife and I buying it the only people who were deprived were landlords and people expanding their AirBnB empires.

And trust me: We agonised over this.

@bazscott I can look out the window and see a newly completed social housing development that hasn’t been fully occupied yet.

@bazscott I’m not exactly hoarding anything 🙂 After spending years paying to let other people’s houses, we bought a holiday home. It’s not a commercial property; we can and do put it on AirBnB but the primary purpose is to have our own space in our favourite place, with a view to retiring there.

@bazscott I own two houses. Not exactly sure what I’m doing wrong.

@antonyjohnston I don’t really think of myself as a metal person, but I love Slave to the Grind. I’ll definitely be listening to this episode to hear what you have to say about one of my favourite albums from my teenage years!

@bazscott I feel like early U2 was kids learning to be musicians. Unforgettable Fire and Joshua Tree was musicians trying to be serious and killing each other in the process. (Rattle and Hum was a cash-in and breaking point). Achtung Baby was peak seriousness and discovering how to have musical fun. ZooTV/Zooropa was the exploration of the musical fun while on the road, and Pop was where they perfected it. It’s been downhill ever since as they become a parody of themselves.

I find it weird that newspapers characterize students as being “pro-Palestinian” as opposed to anti whatever you call this.

Zooropa was a good album and I will fight anyone who says different.

@bigzaphod I have my boxed version of Logic Pro 7 at home, and I love the fact that it has paper manuals for all the instruments. It just feels complete.

@schwa I’ve got a HomePod complaining about needing an Apple ID password updated, but the Home app isn’t responding when I tap the Enter Password button. Doomed.

@scottearle @jamesthomson fortunately it’s all in production right now and all tests are giving good results. We just need to flick the switch on the big day!

@scottearle @jamesthomson it’s being done on a Thursday. I was sure I’d requested a Tuesday!

@jamesthomson @scottearle now I’m worried. I’m responsible for rolling out a new unified login process for our customers in a couple of weeks and I was already feeling nervous about screwing something up. At least we don’t have as many users as Apple!

Record Store Day just doesn’t work for me. I drove for an hour to a record store, and the one thing I wanted from RSD was gone.

I’m not sure what creating artificial scarcity really achieves, especially if it ends up in frustration and puts me off visiting the store in person.

I’ll wait until Monday and see if any of the independent British stores with online presences have copies left over.

@BenRiceM it’s a complex situation I guess. I’ve been able to take advantage of some confusion about it to save money on import duties and such like so I’ll not complain too much 🙂
