@shezza_t @BeebsyMcA in our house it’s only ever known as The Basin. Could actually be a bowl, a basin, or a bucket, but it’s called The Basin. Because of history.

@ianRobinson @stuartgibson when I think about it, a discount for paying up front penalises those who can’t pony up as much in a single month. It seems less significant for these kind of prices, but different people have different thresholds.

@ianRobinson @stuartgibson no real problem, but it sucked for the Twitterrific and Tweetbot devs when people were asking for refunds after the APIs were shut down to the apps.

@stuartgibson have none of learned a thing about yearly subs!

@oisin I have a 2009 Mac Pro that I updated by firmware to appear as a 2010. This allowed me to get it all the way to High Sierra. Stuck in a GPU capable of doing 4K and dual hexcore CPU. Still think my 2020 M1 MBA is better though!

To be fair, it’s a 14yo machine at this stage. It’s done well.

I feel more aggrieved about my 2013 Mac Pro not being supported anymore. It’s the same spec as the trash cans sold in 2019 but none of them get updates anymore!

@schwa @TechConnectify we just call it “the grill”. Though mains gas was less common in Ireland, so it was often electric heating elements. Caused a lot of spectacular fires if you didn’t clean out the grill pan regularly and cooked a lot of bacon.

@fishidwardrobe It came up as a comparison you made, where you said Christians wouldn’t be alarmed by the use of the term daemon. Whether you intended or not, this implied that “if Christians can not be alarmed by daemon then what’s wrong with master/slave?” I just sidestepped it by taking the approach that if a term may offend a group, even if I don’t understand it personally, then we can move beyond it.

That’s all I have to say on this.

@fishidwardrobe people see these terms every day. Metaphor that uses terms associated with kidnap, subjugation, murder, and treatment as property still has the power to hurt.

I’m happy to see the end of daemon as a term in use. Background process is more than okay for use!

A benefit of changing terms is that it also helps non-native English speakers. Background process makes sense. Daemon does not.

The music equipment world needs to do some work to eliminate "master/slave" terminology from its vocabulary. Primary and secondary are fine words to use.

This mini-rant was inspired by the MiniBrute 2S manual.

@chartier even though you’ll be nowhere near me, I’m still excited that you’re coming to Ireland.

Hope the Shiny Frog gathering is ace, and please pass on my best wishes to the team. I’m really looking forward to the 2.0, but I still love using 1.X every day. Doesn’t matter to me how long it takes for it to be ready, no matter how much people whine in the subreddit!

If you by any chance take a diversion to Belfast, I’d love to buy you a pint!

@joshua no. It was completely written by me…ow.

@joshua as a gay man with cats, you are expected to accumulate large amounts of wealth, then leave it all to your cats when you die. This is the agreed process that stops them from subjugating humans right now. The rest of society salutes you.
