@stuartgibson dammit. Why did you have to mention that? Feel like my credit card is gonna need to be 180g to handle the abuse it’s getting these days.

No *you’re* a little too excited about ordering a couple of Sophie Ellis-Bextor records.

@amyworrall dammit! That would have been amazing. I’m disappointed in myself! And in awe of you!

My 10yo daughter had “free play” during PE last week, so she asked the teacher for some equipment to host a seance. Apparently she thought that summoning demons was good exercise.

@flockofnazguls@mas.to I’m an amateur so there’s little for me to lose, but I’ve started taking a photo of the patch then recording an audio sample and I put them both into a note with a description of what I felt hearing it.

@BeebsyMcA start the debate. Mastodon needs to see the real reason for conflict in the north of Ireland. Forget “The Troubles”. Experience “The Traybakes”.

@bigzaphod every time I get annoyed about ads, I remember that they allow access to people who might not otherwise be able to afford the service.

Was listening to the latest episode of mylarmelodies’ Why We Bleep podcast, in which Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith talked about making bad music as well as good music (I’m paraphrasing what she said and butchering it to boot, I’m sure).

I was connecting the MiniBrute to the RackBrute and thought I’d just have 5 minutes of making bad music. I figured I might as well put a few seconds of bad music online while I was at it: vm.tiktok.com/ZMF5ycw59/

@acf I love 99% of the people side of things, but in the last few years the 1% of stuff I don’t like has been occurring increasing amounts of the time.

@acf I’m not saying this to compete. Management can be exhausting. Supporting others as a primary focus can drain every last bit of your energy, and while it’s often gratifying, this has been an especially tough couple of years to be a manager. I’m considering getting out of it and back into being an engineer. Honestly not sure I can take much more of the people side of things.

@acf in the last 3 or 4 years as a manager I’ve dealt with:
- pushing back on monitoring for “poor performers” with arbitrary JIRA stats
- supporting my team through lockdown
- being laid off
- supporting team members being laid off
- fighting for better redundancy
- restoring org confidence after pay disruptions
- giving up pay for 6 months
- company administration
- supporting unpaid engineers
- supporting engineers during a post-acquisition exodus

@chartier @feditips and that could be a way to make easy deployments possible on hosting services.

@feditips @chartier I’d love to see a lightweight single user instance created as an implementation of the Mastodon/ActivityPub APIs. The Docker deployment I run has 4 containers for DB, Web, queues, etc. If you know there’s only one user, you can hardcode a lot of behaviour. Eg drop the entire UI in favour of apps, lighter DB, less queuing, minimal admin.

@marramgrass I wasn’t sure about child Colin Robinson at first, but I like how it’s playing out.

@natural20 @tygerkrash my 10yo daughter told me yesterday that she prefers the first one. 🙂

@Summerray Mastodon needs a repost of the Toys R Us song.

Not sure there’s any comedy as good as these days. Even the detail they put into the title sequence is phenomenal.

I need a Nadja doll. Something decorative will do, but actually alive would be preferable.

@jamesthomson same here. There’s been a lot of false starts!
